Today - the day of the formation and start of Public TV- is an important day in the history of Azerbaijan. For this reason I congratulate all of you. I am sure that Public TV will make a special place for itself in the sphere of Azerbaijan television and gain a large audience. I have gotten acquainted with the techniques in Public TV and I can say that they meet very high standards which mean that this company is ready for broadcasting.
We all know that the formation of Public TV is the fulfillment of one of the conditions put forward to Azerbaijan by the European Council, and Azerbaijan managed to do it. There was a tendency towards its creation. Of course, different existing mass media and television channels functioning in Azerbaijan inform the people of all the events occurring inside and outside our country. But we needed a wholly independent Public Television. And I hope that this company will stimulate further independent mass medias.
Azerbaijan is in a transitional period. During this time mass medias will have much more pressureput on them, as a result most of them will come under control and it should be considered to be a normal process. But everything has its end. I hope that the development of Azerbaijan and political and democratic processes going on in our country will turn a new page in the history of Azerbaijan.
I hope that the public life of Azerbaijan, which is full of events, processes and problems such as “Nagorni Karabagh”, unemployment, poverty, corruption, creation of democratic state etc will be shown on Public TV.
The press plays an important role in protecting our national interests. We know that some information makes scandals. While expressing such information we must take into consideration the fact of the war in Azerbaijan. Both negative and positive processes going on in our country and are followed by Armenians and given a serious reaction.
I have always tried to assist the press and still have and will have the same policy. And there are rules that have been signed by me should be proof to the above-mentioned statement because I believe in the power of mass medias towards the formation of the real democratic state.
Azerbaijan is in a pre-elections period and the creation of Public TV was stated to take place for this reason. Of course, such fact exists. Parliamentary elections are to be held on November 6, and Public TV has a long way and many activities to be done ahead. The elections should be defined as an important event among its activities. I hope that all the nominees will have equal opportunity in getting in touch with their electors.
Due to the information given to me, all the specialists working in this institute are highly qualified. I hope that, with the help of its staff and techniques Public TV will succeed.
I would like to see Public TV succeed and wish the Azerbaijan press to develop and serve the Azerbaijan people properly.
